The Inspired Natives™ Project by Eighth Generation?

The Inspired Natives™ Project, launched by Louie Gong in May 2014, is both a business initiative and an educational initiative. By collaborating with select arts entrepreneurs to manufacture products under the Eighth Generation brand, we hope to expand regional appeal of the Eighth Generation brand while simultaneously increasing the capacity of the arts entrepreneurs and educating the public about the tangible costs of cultural appropriation.

CroWs’ Shadow Institute of the arts

Through grants from several charitable foundations, Crow’s Shadow is typically able to fund three to six Artists-in-Residence each year. Artists participating in these residencies usually spend two weeks in the studio developing limited-edition prints, which are then hand-pulled by Crow’s Shadow’s Tamarind-trained Master Printer, Judith Baumann. Most of the artists who are invited to the studio are not printmakers–they typically specialize in other areas of visual art and the Master Printer’s technical expertise allows them to realize a project in a media that they would not otherwise be able to accomplish. The final prints enter the Crow’s Shadow permanent collection, housed both in our studio and at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem, Oregon. Prints published by Crow’s Shadow Press have traveled extensively to galleries and cultural institutions around the region and nationally.

Changing Currents: Youth Tribal Water Summit

The Changing Currents’ Annual Youth Tribal Water Summit is a leadership development and education program. The Summit is designed for students ages 15-19 years of age in high school or early-college. The Summit is an opportunity for emerging leaders to understand the importance of our water resources and the nature of their stewardship and care for our natural resources. Summit Participants will build a peer-to-peer network with other like-minded youth, learn from Indigenous environmental professionals, hear from Indigenous leaders, and get exposure to university classes.

Portland Trailblazers: Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage month pays respect to the first inhabitants of the land that is now the United States, and challenges people to rethink our history and how it has impacted Tribal Nations. This month and always, we want to recognize the contributions, strength, and culture of these Tribal Nations. Over the course of November, we will be amplifying community voices, highlighting the work of nonprofits serving the community, collaborating with Indigenous-owned businesses, and releasing exclusive content.
